Behind the Scenes with Tarik Saleh on 21 September
See the final instalment of the acclaimed Cairo Trilogy, Eagles of the Republic, followed by a discussion with its director Tarik Saleh at Bio Rex Lasipalatsi on 21 September at 18.
Eagles of the Republic follows Egypt’s most adored actor, George Fahmy, who suddenly falls into disgrace with the authorities. On the verge of losing everything, George is forced to accept an offer he can’t refuse.
The sharp political thriller premiered in the Main Competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The film offers a pointed commentary on the state of democracy in Egypt.
The Behind the Scenes screening is part of the Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy programme. The other two films of the Cairo Trilogy, The Nile Hilton Incident and Boy from Heaven, will also be screened at the festival.

The Behind the Scenes screening is organised by HIFF and Konstsamfundet. The screening is part of the fourth Söderlångvik Masterclass, which will be by Saleh in Kimito Island on 18–21 September. The 4th Söderlångvik Masterclass will feature a diverse group of Nordic directors and actors.
