Trine Dyrholm Leads the Fifth Söderlångvik Masterclass – Nordic Directors and Actors Invited to Apply

The fifth edition of the Söderlångvik Masterclass, organised by Helsinki International Film Festival and Amos Andersons Fond, will take place 7-10 May 2026 on Kimito Island and Helsinki, Finland. This spring, the masterclass proudly welcomes internationally acclaimed Danish actor Trine Dyrholm as its lead. A carefully selected group of 12 Nordic film professionals will gather for a three-day residency focused on deepening the collaboration between directors and actors.

Recognised as one of the leading actors of her generation with titles such as Queen of Hearts and The Girl with the Needle under her belt, Dyrholm has built a remarkable international career spanning film, television, and theatre. With award-winning performances across the Nordic region and beyond, she brings a wealth of experience in character work and long-standing creative partnerships with directors to the masterclass.

The theme of this edition centres on the creative dialogue between director and actor, and the shared process of building a character.

“My focus in the masterclass will be on how directors and actors can prepare and collaborate on a character in advance so that the shooting period becomes a space for exploration. I’m also interested in how we can support the director’s vision while creating a safe and inspiring environment where actors feel free to leap and let the character lead the way,” says Dyrholm.

Over the course of the residency, participants will explore how trust, preparation, and artistic openness can strengthen both performance and storytelling. Through discussions, practical exercises, and shared reflection, the masterclass offers a rare opportunity to examine the actor–director dynamic in depth.

Set against the serene Söderlångvik grounds on Kimito Island – once home to arts patron and film enthusiast Amos Anderson – the masterclass provides an inspiring environment for concentrated creative exchange.

The call is now open for directors and actors based in the Nordic countries who have prior professional experience. The call will be open until 5.4.2026. More information about the programme, eligibility criteria, and the application process can be found on our website.

The Söderlångvik Masterclass is a residency initiative developed by Amos Andersons Fond in collaboration with Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy. Launched in 2024, this spring’s event marks the fifth edition of the masterclass. Previous masterclass leads include directors Tarik Saleh and Magnus von Horn, as well as actor Alma Pöysti.
